Our goal is to ensure that every community that wants and needs local news has it.
Journalism New England is a startup non-profit organization working to build and sustain local news in the region and insure that local news organizations are supported with the kinds of tailored problem-solving, partnerships and funding they need to succeed.
We help local, independent news outlets achieve sustainability in four ways:
CONSULTATION
Offering hands-on,free support to help move outlets towards sustainability. We’ll consult with local outlets to help them reach their goals, on everything from editorial best practices and marketing to fundraising and basic business operation.
COLLABORATION
Working together across our network to build connections, support professional development and fundraise collaboratively. By connecting outlets and media professionals across New England, we can create a community of sharing and problem solving that makes the entire field stronger.
EDUCATION
Working to train future journalists and business leaders, creating jobs and opportunities in local news. This includes boot camps and training for early career and aspiring news professionals, regional conferences and resource sharing.
DOLLARS
To fund select outlets through operating grants and philanthropic giving, and to incubate new local news outlets in news deserts, doing the legwork and offering start-up dollars and expertise to build new outlets where needed.
